Indigestion Chest
Pain
Indigestion Chest Pain is often the first sign that all is not well within the digestive system although chest pain
is not the only symptom of indigestion problems. There are other areas of concern, as well as the chest, such as
the stomach and back which often exhibit some signs of discomfort.
All three areas may well be the
manifestation of different causes of indigestion but, nevertheless, it’s true that many of the indigestion
sufferers have problems associated with the upper stomach and esophagus which does mean some Indigestion Chest
Pain.
Causes Of Indigestion Chest Pain
Causes of indigestion chest pain are many and varied and
require a thorough investigation and diagnosis by a competent medical professional.
One of the known causes of indigestion chest
pain is a peptic ulcer which is similar to an open sore and can
often be found in the upper stomach and the esophagus.
Peptic ulcers may develop through the continual and
excessive use of OTC (over the counter) medication such as aspirin or ibuprofen palliatives which are known
to affect the esophagus and stomach lining in some people. Additionally, bacteria such as the Helicobacter
pylori are not helpful in these cases.
Then, of course, there’s the age-old problem of heartburn,
resulting from stomach acid coming into the esophagus and causing various degrees of discomfiture sometimes
alarmingly similar, to the uninitiated, to a full-blown heart attack. One of the
causes of indigestion chest pain known as heartburn can be reasonably easy to arrest by eating smaller meals
or not overindulging on foods with a high acidic content. There might also be a medical problem affecting a
valve not closing in the esophagus and allowing acid from the stomach to come into the throat which often
causes nausea as well as general discomfort.
Other folk often have
additional causes of indigestion chest
pain known as gastritis which is an inflammation of the lining
of the stomach sometimes attributable to overuse of OTC (over the counter) medication. As with many medical
conditions an over-reliance on alcohol is not conducive to good health and is sometimes connected with the
incidence of gastritis. The indigestion chest pain coming from gastritis is a burning pain rather than a
sharp pain in the chest area.
However, like many
medical conditions the patient can easily contribute to his or her own welfare. The patient, as a first step,
should immediately examine their diet and drinking culture and any reliance on proprietary OTC (over the
counter) medications. However, it is not always that simple and there may well be other significant
underlying contributory medical reasons which can only be established by consulting the appropriate qualified
people. Only then, after all the tests are completed, will you really be aware of the causes of indigestion chest
pain.
