Constant Indigestion
Constant indigestion is a problem for many people, young or old, fat or thin; there’s no common
denominator, for at some stage virtually anyone will suffer from heartburn and indigestion pain.
Everybody goes to a party sometime and then the food and drink begin to flow and the age-old problem rears its
ugly head; our eyes are bigger than our stomach…which may well lead to an attack, and then constant indigestion is
there. Most of us then fall back on over-the-counter cures for reflux acid like Rolaids, Prilosec, Nexium, Prevacid
and Omeprazole.
Little do we realize just what can happen if we seek solace in antacid products whether as a tablet or a liquid.
Perhaps you were unaware that some of these items are intended for only short term usage.
Excess Acid In The Stomach
Excess acid in the stomach can often be caused by consuming food well after their expiry dates and while
the stomach needs acid to digest food an oversupply will cause problems. Excess acid in the stomach, above a normal
level, will lead to heartburn and indigestion especially after overeating.
Typical Symptoms Of Constant Indigestion
1. Pain in the upper abdomen.
2. Bloating.
3. Belching or burping
4. Nausea and flatulence.
5. Loss of appetite.
It may well be that these symptoms are only manifested in slight discomfort and disappear quite quickly or
are easily controlled by OTC (over-the-counter medicines).
However, constant indigestion can be a real problem and, if the symtoms are
long-lasting, a visit to your usual healthcare professional is called for…and without undue delay.
And, if you happen to be pushing fifty and suffer from constant indigestion with an unusual decrease in
weight, a fast medical diagnosis is an absolute necessity.
If your constant Indigestion is only causing mild discomfort and you don’t want to resort to antacid
tablets, one assured and time-honored way of attacking the problem is a simple dietary adjustment. The vast
majority of constant indigestion problems are usually harmless due to people eating the wrong foods and will clear
up once the diet is amended. Pregnant women are sometimes subject to constant indigestion although this is not a
cause for concern as once baby is born the symptoms of heartburn and indigestion disappears.
Acid Indigestion
Acid indigestion (GERD) is an additional common problem often associated with heartburn and indigestion even though
this is often caused by overeating whilst acid indigestion is due to an untoward quantity of hydrochloric acid in
the stomach. Ideally you want a situation that involves no mediaction without a burning sensation, you can swallow
food easily without pain and no stoamch acid.
Summing up, the general discomfort from constant indigestion can fluctuate with the more severe symptoms
harder to eradicate through ordinary means. To ensure a correct assessment of your condition and a recommended
course of treatment you should have a heart-to-heart discussion with your doctor. He or she might well surprise you
with a suggested treatment for your condition; not all doctors initially reach for the prescription pad. Indeed,
some medical professionals are now using hypnotic relaxation techniques as a remedy for constant
indigestion.
